Last Words of the Executed.

The University of Chicago Press is offering Last Words of the Executed by Robert Elder as a free ebook. The only catch—you have to download the Bluefire Reader app and create an Adobe ID. Still, the book (recommended by Mark Athitakis) seems worth the trouble of a separate e-reader app. From the book’s website:

This is the history of capital punishment in America, told from the gallows, the chair, and the gurney.

The UCP is apparently offering a free ebook each month, and a free journal article each week, as well.
