The Volokh Conspiracy has an interesting post about Jerry Brito’s essay on government transparency—and how it might not have the positive consequences we (whatever our politics) expect it to. Brito’s critique is from the libertarian POV:
I spent a considerable portion of my career working to liberate government data in order to achieve more limited government. So it gives me no pleasure to come to the conclusion that it’s probably wrong.
The essay is somewhat cynical and sad—but also thought-provoking.
