Why Goodreads is Important to Amazon.

The Atlantic, on why Amazon purchased Goodreads:

Today, the publishing industry survives on super fans — book worms who read far more than most Americans, and who tell their friends what to read as well. By picking up Goodreads, Amazon gets to tap into those super fans. Simple.

I’ve been using another Amazon acquisition, Shelfari, for some time, although I’ve kept a Goodreads account. But it appears that most everyone I know is using Goodreads. I may have to keep up both.
